In the evening, visit Tashichho Dzong for an outer view of this grand fortress monastery, which houses the throne room and government offices. After breakfast, begin your exploration with a visit to Kuensel Phodrang, home to the towering Buddha Dordenma statue, offering panoramic views of the valley. En route, stop at Dochu-La Pass (3,150 meters), which offers breathtaking views of the Himalayan mountain range on clear days. Upon arrival in Punakha, visit the Punakha Dzong, a masterpiece of Bhutanese architecture built in 1637. This magnificent fortress, known as Pungthang Dechen Phodrang (Palace of Great Happiness), served as the government’s seat until the second king’s reign and remains the winter residence of the monastic body. Afterward, embark on a short uphill hike (30 minutes) to Chimi Lhakhang, also known as the Temple of Fertility, dedicated to the Divine Madman, Lama Drukpa Kunley. This sacred monastery is one of Bhutan’s most iconic landmarks and requires a moderate hike of around 3-4 hours round trip. Alternatively, if you prefer a lighter excursion, visit Sangchen Chokor Monastery, offering panoramic views of Paro Valley and a peaceful temple experience. Return to Paro and spend the evening shopping for local crafts, trying traditional Bhutanese dress, or simply relaxing. Overnight stay at Paro.
